York Evening Press - The Voice York Evening Press - Busking

Beth McCarthy may only be sixteen, but  as her lyrics rightly say, she has the right to be taken seriously. And she should be. She has already proved herself as a musician, singer and songwriter with a regular presence on the York busking circuit, as well as a veteran of the local music scene where she has gigged since she was 13!  Most recently she has supported Shed Seven at the Barbican in York, and performed on the Oxman Stage at the Galtres Festival, as well as several support slots on other acoustic tours across the UK, Festival sets and regular shows in and around York.

Her influences include Ed Sheeran, Gabrielle Alpin and Taylor Swift which is reflected in her unique styling which has been referred to as ‘acoustic pop with a country-esque twang’.

In 2012 Beth released her first single ‘Hero’ via itunes, which proved a great success and spurred her on to record and release her first EP, ‘Northern Light’ in the summer of 2013. She arranged the production, launch and release of the EP herself, including a special ‘sold out’ Launch show at The Basement, York.

Beth recently took part in the BBC tv show ‘The Voice’ (UK) as well as continuing study in the Access to Music programme, and gigging.

Beth will once again be supporting Cherry Suede on several dates of their 2014 UK tour, as well as on the festival circuit and other events. Visit her website for up to date information
